Working closely with students has been one of the highlights of my scientific career and I always enjoy following their subsequent careers. This month, my first two PhD students, Toby Kiers and Will Ratcliff, both had cover stories in Nature.
Toby’s article was featured in the New York Times, with cool videos of bidirectional movement in hyphal threads of mycorrhizal fungi. Will actually had two articles in the same issue, the cover story on the role of genome duplication in multicellularity, and a review article on long-term studies of evolution.
