Princeton University Press has just published a paperback edition of my book, Darwinian Agriculture. Like The Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, it is “slightly cheaper” than the Encylopedia Galactica and also than the hardbound edition.
The image above (Fig. 10.1 in the book) shows the effects of different herbicides on the weed, watergrass, from organic and conventional rice farms. Watergrass from the conventional farms (back two rows) has evolved resistance to the herbicides, “Whip” and “Abolish.” Weeds can evolve resistance to nonchemical control methods, too, as discussed in the book.
